SCI Cambridge Springs: Female Incarceration in Pennsylvania

SCI Cambridge Springs is a minimum-security facility for female offenders located in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. The prison opened in March 1992 and was formerly a college known as Polish National Alliance. The existing buildings were built in the 1930s and 1940s; however, construction of new housing units and renovations have since been completed.

The facility was converted to a minimum-security facility for adult females in July 1984. However, in 1992, it was converted to an adult male facility, and all females were transferred to SCI Cambridge Springs. The prison has a Parenting Program specifically designed to strengthen families and communities by reestablishing family ties and preparing inmates to accept accountability and responsibility as parents. The intended result is to empower the inmates to make better choices and reduce recidivism rates.

SCI Cambridge Springs hosted a blood drive with the American Red Cross in May 2022, and a total of 27 donations were collected. The prison also has a chaplain who was honored with an award in April 2022. The chaplain provides spiritual guidance and support to the inmates and staff.
